WANDAVISION -Review

Wanda Vision is a Disney+ miniseries created by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany as Vision, and is part of the bigger shared Marvel Cinematic Universe. WandaVision series picks up right after the events of avenger endgame, where the avengers defeated Thanos and vision was still dead. Some of you who hasn't watched the series must be wondering how is it that vision still alive, don't worry it's answered in the series. Here are the things I loved and the things I hate:

Things I loved

1. Plot

I love how they set up the series, the series opens up with Wanda and Vision who just got married and are moving to West View town, where you as a viewer begin wondering why is everything in black and white, until you realize that they are stuck in the 1950s sitcom( A situational comedy television program which sometimes is recorded in front of audience) . With each episode they move to a different sitcom, set up in a different decade, which is a great way to pay homage to sitcoms.

The series is very well written, it does not rush through things, it takes time to set up things. When you watch the series you'll keep searching for the villain, there were moments where I thought the protagonist is the main villain and boy oh boy was I wrong some of you might disagree with me. Through out the series you'll keep wondering who the villain is and that is how I like my series. Another best part about the series is that you finally get Scarlet Witch origin story.

2. Cast

Elizabeth Olsen's portrayal of a Scarlet Witch was great and it's not the first time we have seen her take on the Scarlet Witch role. She perfectly played the part of grieving Scarlet Witch who is slowly loosing her mind. Also Paul Bettany is great as vision. Now the favorite part of the series Evan Peters as Peitro( Wanda's Brother) Ralhp Boner. I thought Marvel recast Pietro I wish they had done that I guess the joke is on me. I loved Evan Peter as Quicksilver in X-men series I was hoping Marvel Studios recast him as Quicksilver in the MCU replacing Aron Taylor John. His performance was quite enjoyable. Overall there were no bad performances and the casting was perfect.

Things I didn't love.

1. The villain

It was Agatha all along, the biggest issue with that character is that Agnes(Agatha Harkness) is shown as this comedic relief before she is revealed as the villain in the series, this makes it difficult for us viewers to take that character seriously as a villain even though she is a powerful witch. Another thing I hated was her costume it looked like someone who has dressed up for fancy dress competition . I wish her character was a bit more dark, that would have been great, after all she is an evil witch who played mind games on Scarlet Witch.

2. Setup for future spinoff

If WandaVision series were a self contained show it would have been great, but as expected from Marvel Studios, they added characters and storyline which would results in future movies and shows hence making them more money. Imagine if Wanda and Vision had to figure out, on their own, all the weird things happening and Agatha playing mind games on both of them, that would have made a much more compelling show, maybe.

Conclusion

WandaVision is a great show it's well written and well directed, there are no bad performances in the series most noticeable performances being Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Paul Bettany as Vision and Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness. You are going to love the series as for the issues it's mostly nitpicking.

Score: 7.5/10
